Sightseeing tour of Tbilisi:
If you have not yet been to the capital of Georgia, and you are interested in urban planning and the history of architecture, a walking tour of Old Tbilisi is definitely for you!
Where else can you take a selfie against the background of the ancient Temple of the 12th century Metekhi and carved colorful balconies at the same time?
After admiring the magnificent panorama of the Old City, from here we will go by cable car to the Narikala Fortress - the main citadel of many centuries. Then we will go down the narrow cobbled streets and visit the only mosque in Tbilisi. Walking inland along the Inzhira Gorge, we will see a small waterfall Legvtahevi - a rare phenomenon in the city.
And the next object of our walking tour - "Abanotubani" (literally "bathing area") - is known for healing sulfur baths. Previously, they served not only as centers of personal hygiene and recreation (the predecessors of modern spas), but also provided an opportunity for interesting public meetings. And what delicious lemonade is served there nowadays! Those interested can look inside and book a room at a convenient time in the famous sulfur baths. Do not forget to order the services of mekise - a special type of massage and peeling, without which the local bath is unthinkable. (Visits to sulfur baths are paid extra)
We will definitely walk along the pedestrian Peace Bridge, which is spread over the Mtkvari River - it will certainly be remembered for its futuristic design, which stands out from the general architectural ensemble of our capital.
The Temple of Sioni (XVII century) will not remain without our attention. Being the main Orthodox Cathedral and the residence of the Patriarch - Catholicos of Georgia until the construction of the Holy Trinity Church in 2004, it is an important attraction of the city.
We will also definitely see the oldest surviving temples in Tbilisi - Anchiskhati (VI century BC).
And how indifferent to walk past the clock tower of the famous Puppet Theater Rezo Gabriadze? This amazing object, of course, is included in the route of our excursion. (Overnight at the Hotel in Tbilisi).
DAY 3 TBILISI - BODBE - SIGNAS - TBILISI
Breakfast at the hotel.
our path lies in the Kakheti region, famous for traditional winemaking. Huge lands with sprawling vineyards will impress not only connoisseurs of high-quality wine, but also anyone who loves the picturesque nature.
The first thing we will visit in this enchanting region is the holy Bodbe Monastery, which is a popular pilgrimage site. On its territory are the relics of the Equal-to-the-Apostles St. Nino (it was thanks to her that Christianity became the official religion of Georgia in 326).
Our next stop will be - “City of Love” - Signagi. Despite its restoration, the pristine, historical view of the city is preserved. Wandering the streets, we can plunge into the atmosphere of past centuries. And what a magnificent view of the Alazani Valley and the Caucasus Mountains!
Next, we will walk (about 500 m) along the wall of the largest Signagi Fortress: in the war years its watchtowers gave a guarantee of protection of nearby villages.
Sighnaghi is also famous for its museum, which collects archaeological and ethnographic material from the entire region. Moreover, on the 2nd floor it is worth visiting a permanent exhibition of a very famous artist - self-taught - Niko Pirosmani, who is popularly called simply “Nikala”.
